Assam To Clear illegal Encroachment From 12 Government Lands Within Five Years

Guwahati: The Assam government has decided to clear illegal encroachment from government land from as many as 12 places, said state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

According to Economic Times, the said land will be cleared within five years of the present government.

''The government has identified 12 sites which are illegally occupied. In two places we have already carried out evictions drives and cleared the land from encroachment,'' ET quoted him as saying on Saturday.

Sarma further asserted that a committee has been formed under the former minister Pradip Hazarika to assess if there is any encroachment and how much encroachment of the land of sattras (monasteries).

In the last month of November, the state government has carried out eviction of the Lumding Reserve Forest.

In October, two people died while 15 policemen injured as there were violent clashes between local people during the eviction drive at Gorukhuti in the Dholpur in Darrang.
